EcoMakala Virunga Reforestation project

Community reforestation around Virunga National Park (DRC): over 10,000 ha planted with fast-growing species to produce sustainable “ecomakala” charcoal as an alternative to illegal logging, reducing park deforestation. The project sequesters about 179,000 tCO₂ and avoids over 50,000 tCO₂ through efficient stoves, engaging thousands of local farmers.

Riforestazione comunitaria attorno al Parco Nazionale dei Virunga (RDC): oltre 10.000 ha piantati con specie a crescita rapida per produrre “ecomakala” sostenibile come alternativa al carbone illegale, riducendo la deforestazione del parco, sequestro di circa 179.000 tCO₂ ed evitamento di oltre 50.000 tCO₂ grazie a stufe più efficienti, con coinvolgimento di migliaia di agricoltori locali.
